The Square Circle — a poem about escapism

The Square Circle — a poem about escapism

The Square Circle

Let me walk with you this evening
along this quiet block

where everything that means anything
is contained in a glowing box—

where blonde sisters trick their misters,
enduring to an immortal age
and bellowing laughter through smoky sage—

where friends meet at the fountain
and aunts visit with their grandbabes—

where the skyline hints at a downtown dream
of honest ad execs and ethical news teams—

where the beach inspires silver ladies
to tell all our truths and coax us out of youth—

where the problems are solved
before you can blink your eyes.

Let me talk with you tonight
and escape my tired mind.

Let me walk with you
and leave this world behind.
