Peace & Ease — a poem about creating calm and fostering healing

Peace & Ease

I'd been told to ignore the sting—
that the point was in the pain.
But my advisors never faced
my particular affliction
and they never lent a hand
nor coated me in any balm.
They meant well
but their counsel
was my downfall.

I began with one small gesture
to alleviate a chronic soul-deep burn—
reached out to another being
with no vested interest
who knew what to say
and what to do.
Overnight, relief was given.
Over time, complete remission.

With one laceration healed,
I was inspired to treat another,
and on and on
till all maladies were gone.

Irritation creates pearls
and pressure creates diamonds
but I am not a jewel,
I'm a living, breathing person.
I deserve a moment of enjoyment
here on the physical plane.
Keep your worship of hardships
and litanies of adversity.
I'm moving on
to a place
of peace
and ease.
