Another new poem: Casualty

It's been close to a month since I've updated, and I didn't want that stretch to go on any longer! I've written better poems than this one since I last posted, but I'm putting freshness ahead of quality just this once, because I literally finished this poem less than a minute ago and I wanted to put it up as "live" as I possibly can.

In my opinion? Not one of my best--but it expresses an emotion and an understanding that I haven't been able to reach before. Hope you like it, and if you do, please comment!

Casualty

Quietly
reclaiming
everything
you stole
from me

in my own way,
without returning
to your space.

Discovering
a reality
that is better,
stronger,
and healthier

than any day
I ever coveted
from you.

This is,
after all,
a gift of
change.

And what
was gifted
will remain.

Hunger for
better things
pushes me
to try
harder

in my own time
without reverting
to old ways.

Empowering
possibilities
that soothe me,
heal me,
and teach me

more than they could
in ancient damaging
moments.

It was,
in the end,
a war I
won.

Every
casualty
now reborn.

Happy Holidays!
