Trust and Believe — NaPoWriMo Day #26 — a poem about pursuing your life's work

Trust and Believe — NaPoWriMo Day #26 — a poem about pursuing your life's work

I never told a lie.
Every word was set in stone,
emblazoned in gold,
and kissed by lights.

Nothing mattered more.
I just needed a bit more time.

More time than most to process,
to synthesize the truth
that eluded every set of eyes—
every last set of eyes
but yours and mine.

The camera tricks
and attention-getting hacks
were ultimately no match
for sleuths like us.

You caught on first.
For a time,
I was beyond blind.
Senseless
in every sense
of the word.

If misled, and indeed I was,
how can one craft a roadmap
or fashion a flightplan
for an entire lifespan?

A little girl needs guidance
but this adult needs to parent herself.

I'm healing the tiny slices
that no one else can see.
I'm finishing up the manuscripts
and publishing all of me.

Trust and believe,
trust and believe,
there is more to live for
and still more to dream.

This ending
is only
the beginning.
