Weighted — a poem about a world-weary and dispassionate mindset

Weighted

A bouquet of feelings:
A quiet understanding.
A wish that I wasn't there.
An annoyance at redundancy.
An awareness that I'm dead.

As empty and unattached as a mind can be,
I swirl down the drain and don't give a damn.
I used to care so much—too much.
Now I couldn't possibly care enough.

The wearing really does wear you down.
You can't swim in the green and not be jaded.
You can't love the beast without wanting to tame it.
You can't wear the crown without being weighted.

I didn't leave a legacy
because our legacy is crazy.
I won't fake a masterpiece
when words are free.
